After publishing yesterday's post I headed straight for my studio. I've had some elements for a painting floating through my brain for a few weeks now and wanted to do something solid with them. The first element was a bird form...not a sweet static image, but one portraying power, motion and freedom. This is what came to me. I think it looks a little like a super hero bird.
I also wanted to incorporate some of the lyrics of a song that's been running through my head quite a bit for the last few weeks.
You will probably recognize this color palette. I have used it a lot lately as these colors have great symbolic meaning to me:
yellow = joy, light, wisdom
orange = healing, balance
red = love, life
purple = royalty, power
blue = faith, peace, rest
In the final image, the bird flies past a veiled area, into a much more open space. It is a place of understanding and perfect peace.
If you read yesterday's post you might have guessed this is how I envision my sister as she recently entered eternity...free, unfettered, completely healed and whole. I've been wanting to put this image on paper for days now and I'm grateful you stopped by to see it. I hope it gives you the same sense of joy and freedom that it gives me.
I'm linking up today with Paint Party Friday. Follow the link to see what some very talented artists have been up to this week. If it's inspiration you're after you will definitely find it there!
Hi Janice, As I see your piece I keep hearing Kenny Rankin sing this song in my head - his version is the most soulful to me. If you don't know it you might want to listen to it. Lovely superhero bird, so much power, so much grace. xox
ReplyDeleteThanks, Corrine. I will definitely look for Kenny Rankin's version. I also have a version by Carly Simon that Jill was particularly fond of. Funny thing... in talking to some close friends of hers, I find that several of us have had that song running through our heads quite a bit for the past few weeks.
DeleteLove the symbolism and combination of colors!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Corrinne...the superhero bird is lovely and full of grace!

Thank you, Mary. I don't always have a clear idea of what I'm going to put on paper before I begin a piece, but this bird image was very clear in my mind right from the start.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Kat. I've always been very sensitive to color. After getting to know your art a bit I think you must be sensitive to it as well. It seems the unspoken tools of communication are the most powerful sometimes.

ReplyDeleteHi, Linda! I think color symbolism is going to be a big part of my focus for a while. I tend to approach it in a very intuitive way.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Gina. I am trying to learn to trust my instincts more. Sometimes it feels clumsy, but I think I'm on a good path.
DeleteI love the power of hope in this painting. The words are perfect!! I think it is packed with love and emotion! I thought so before I read your story! I too find colors have emotion and as my life evolved the colors I used were very telling... I have to be surrounded in color...it feeds my soul!! Beautiful art and words!

I am so sensitive to the way colors make me feel that I've been known to repaint entire rooms a slightly different shade two or three times trying to get the right nuance or "feeling" in the space...probably seems a bit obsessive to some :-)
DeleteThis is an amazing piece of artwork. What I read about it meaning to you made it even more special to me...
ReplyDeleteMandel
Thank you, Mandel. It's a very special piece to me, to. It's good to see you here. I hope your new year is off to a great start!
