This leisurely Saturday morning has afforded me the time to do a bit of sketching. I have a new porcelain mug I just love and, since I can't keep my eyes off of it anyway, I thought I might as well commit what I see to paper.
Symmetrical curvy vessels like this can be such a challenge. I usually begin with a sort of "grid" so that I will end up with at least some sort of balance.
It's always hard to decide just when to stop. I think I'll add a little ink and watercolor later.
In other news, yesterday I found a few treasures at a second-hand store that have helped me cozy up my studio. I finally found the funky chair I've been looking for along with a velvet pillow in a very yummy shade of green and a curtain that I think ties them together perfectly.
The botanical + bird prints on the curtain suit me just fine.
So here's what my studio looked like yesterday morning:
Not bad, but I really wanted a comfortable place to sit when I check my emails or just need to mull something over, so here'e the new and improved version.
There's just something about the color orange that puts a smile on my face every time. I am a happy girl when I sit in that chair. Unfortunately I'm not the only one who loves it!
So now I have a great place to sit and visit all your lovely blogs and read your sweet comments. Slowly but surely my studio space is becoming the little haven I always dreamed of having. Life is good.
Linking up today with:
Love your new chair!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your studio! and Little Princess!
ReplyDeleteJanice, thanks for stopping in and commenting on my blog! What a nice note:) I think your studio space is awesome and that chair is terrific! Orange is a great color!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at Princess. She looks SO at home in that chair. And your updated space is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI can't draw anything. Truly. I tried to draw a snowman one year and made such a mess of it, all my friends who saw it laughed till they were in tears. You make it all look SO easy, though. Thanks for the encouragement, even if it was wasted on my inability to make my hands cooperate with what I see with my eyes.
Aw..I have a Princess, too, 'cept she's a blind cat. Princess Sweet Pea. :) Love the orange chair!! Too bad you won't get to sit in it much. I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteLove your studio, it looks to inviting and tidy... I used to have a sausage dog, they are great characters. I share my office chair with Pickle my cat...she has her own chair but likes to be snuggled up to me.. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it absolutely amazing what one little change can do? That chair really warmed up your space (love that picture hanging on the right btw!). Tell me: what software are you using for your kitty princess? that's pretty awesome! Good to see you on AEDM again! Onward!
ReplyDeleteHi, Tammy. I added the line work to that photo with an app for my iPad called sketches. It's really easy to learn+use. I also create copy on my pc sometimes with a Bamboo Pad (you can Google that). It uses a stylus, is reasonably priced, and I believe it works with just about any drawing program. I'll be glad to share anything I've learned with you! Thanks for visiting!
Deleteheh - kitty princess - doggies princess - haven't had my coffee yet. ;) I guess I think of daschunds (how do you spell that) as kitties. Just like my pugs are more cat than dog!
ReplyDeleteHa! She is pretty kitten-like, actually :-)
DeleteOkay, never, I mean never, in my life has my studio been that clean - what a sweet space and I notice there is a tiny doggie crate down below suitable for royalty herself. Love that bird fabric, reminds me so much of my childhood and my Mom's decorating style. xox
ReplyDeleteOK, I know others have said this, but... your studio is so tidy, Janice! It really does look like a haven, and the orange and green combination is perfect. Make sure you get to sit in that cheerful chair, because your 'little princess' looks very much at home in it... I'm not sure when you will get a turn! :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the completed picture of your porcelain mug. The sketch looks like it's coming along nicely.
Love your studio! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteYour studio improvement looks supersuper great! I love the colors and pattern of the fabric you used for the drapery and your comfortable lovely chair is my favourite color. I have some cushions and curtains and boxes in the same color in my private room and especially now in November, this color makes me happy!
