This week I drew a line in the sand. I'm not going to let watercolor scare me anymore. It's intimidated me for far too long! As part of my fear of watercolor recovery program, I've decided to...
trust that less is more.
respect the white space and not obliterate it.
and make bold marks (but not too many).
.
I'm actually feeling rather brave these days as my sketches move in a direction I truly enjoy. It is so worth the commitment to sketch every day (or almost every day). Drawing that line in the sand definitely set something into motion.
Are you taking a few chances, gaining momentum in an area of your life/art? I'd love to hear about it!

ReplyDeleteHello Janice, your water color sketches are looking great, I love that big bright flower! So true how less can be more with water colors, the white marries so well with these delicate colors, keep right on, you're doing great! xx
ReplyDeleteAh, watercolor intimidation! I know that dragon well. It's lovely to see that you are bravely facing your beast and winning the battle! These are all fresh and happy and inspiring. Well done. I think sometimes we just love the way some artists paint so much that we think we have to do that too, when inside of each of us is a very different magic that is screaming to get out. I've found that when I'm playing around with a new medium and I just stay in that "playful place" with no worries about the outcome, amazing things are created. And each experience teaches me something more to use the next time. Stay with this. Your own magic is right there under your pen. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketches, simple and lovely, the pared down-ness is so fresh!
ReplyDeleteI love these!! Less is more is working for you! Those colors look really fresh. Watercolors are intimidating. I find that watercolor takes a lot of forethought, and I like to do my thinking after the fact...
