Pepper Talk

A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness;
it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.
Gertrude Jekyll

Remember the pepper plants I shared about in this post a few weeks ago?

Good news!  They're alive and thriving!

Yay Edmund, for not pulling the baby plants up again!

And yay, Kera, for letting me know when Edmund starts to get out of line.

Can't wait to see this for real!

Some years I get around to planting a few things, some years I don't.  This year I was a little ambitious and put in tomatoes, green beans, zucchini, yellow squash, and four colors of sweet peppers: green, red, yellow and purple...all good veggies to grow in Texas.

I am most excited about the purple peppers...they'll be so fun to paint (and eat)!  For now I'm making do with green ones from the grocery store.  I love their roundness and their smooth, shiny skin.

No gardening on the calendar for the next few days, though.  I'm spending time with the fam over the weekend so I'll have to catch up next week. I still have a bunch of annuals to put out.  They were so pretty at the plant nursery I just couldn't say no.  I'm a sucker for spring blooms.

Enjoy your weekend, my friends!

  4. How exciting! A pepper plant! I think plants are just plain exciting anyway. I've planted some basil seeds, and also some lily bulbs. The basil seeds, just a week old, are already half inch sprouts!! However, the lily bulbs at 2 weeks old haven't burst through the ground yet! Just waiting!! :)

Love your paintings of your plants too! Lovely!

I love Peppers so much and ate them almost daily for 25 years or more until my daughter became allergic to them.... even the smell of cutting them makes her throat close..... I did sneak one in my wrap today...thankfully it wasn't too aromatic!! zucchini is another favorite too!!

Love your dogs...that photo of Edmund is priceless!! You should paint him one day...What a character!!

  12. Where I live you must be a really good gardener, to get things like peppers and tomatoes growing, or I'm just too weak a gardener ;-)

Love your paintings of the greenery and lots of your other art!
I mostly don't get to commenting on your blog, because of "lack of words".
Today is ok, I can manage the garden theme.
    Happy PPF!

  14. I love your sketches! The way you use color and line is truly lovely.
I'm starting to plan a garden of my own for next year!
Best of luck keeping your plants safe from pets... for the longest time I couldn't have plants in the house... my cat ate my pansy roots and all. :)
